Recent news have indicated that a good number of schools in NSW have been found to have some asbestos building material. It is said that they are of small amounts and are still in good condition, thereby posing low risk. Asbestos was used widely in construction in Australia for some period between 1920’s and mid 1980’s. There is a wide range of asbestos-related diseases. Mesothelioma, lung cancer, and asbestosis are only some of the diseases linked to asbestos. I guess it is good that these so-called asbestos schools have been identified so that administrators, parents and students can be properly informed and take the necessary precautions.
