Coming from an Asian country, I had a big question mark on my mind when I first heard the word ‘bloke’ here in Australia. I can’t recall exactly what the context was. Anyway, it was obvious that the speaker was referring to a ‘person’. The question is, is it a good or bad thing to be referred to as a ‘bloke’? After a few more times hearing it, I learned that it is simply a term used to refer to a male, usually in an informal way.

Bloke is commonly used in the UK as well, but Sheila isn’t. Just as well since it’s my name
